There are countless mistakes a business leader can make, but according to one organizational strategist all that's required to avoid the myriad of possible mistakes is to focus on the five overarching laws of defeat outlined here. The author warns leaders not to fall victim to such pitfalls as narrow thinking, which results in missed opportunity; perceptual bias, where they confuse their own perception of a situation with reality; working at cross purposes (for example, giving an employee a mandate to carry out but not giving them the decision-making authority to implement it); getting stuck by repeating a solution that doesn't work; and being too outcome oriented (chasing a specific outcome rather than guiding a situation into the best possible outcome).
