Scientists Create Clothes that Produce Power

MP3 players and cell phones may one day be powered by users’ clothes. U.S. scientists have created a microfiber that “translates the mechanical movement of your body into electricity,” according to Zhong Lin Wang, who led the study. Wang said, “The fiber-based nanogenerator would be a simple and economical way to harvest energy from the physical movement.” Wang’s team has been able to “demonstrate the principle and the fundamental mechanism” but is still figuring out how to protect the fabric in the wash.
