While anti-corruption enforcement has grown stronger worldwide, some executives believe that business practices are becoming more corrupt, according to the Ernst & Young survey "Corruption or compliance — weighing the costs: the 10th global fraud survey." The United States enforces the aggressive Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), while other countries have varying legal obligations. “Many enforcement actions arise in the context of mergers and acquisitions," says David Stulb, global leader of fraud Investigation & dispute services for Ernst & Young. “Companies should consider the potential regulatory liabilities they are acquiring relative to bribery and corruption. It’s not just about avoiding penalties – it’s about improving the business.”
