Companies often seek to hire skilled, experienced workers with a track record in the same industry, but this report proves that this strategy may not always work best. Using psychological theory, the authors assessed not just the impact of bringing in skilled and knowledgeable workers at two call centers, but also the cognitive and behavioral responses that the workers had developed in their prior jobs. The upshot of the research is that "if you have a strong culture and a clear strategy in doing things that differ from your competitor, you may want to think carefully about whether you want to hire for experience or whether you want to hire people with less experience and invest more in training them in your model."
